Still weird to think Yu Darvish is on the Dodgers. Rangers were 5 games back of the wildcard and gave it up. Probably the right move though

What a great read. By the time scouts started coming around, Darko saw the NBA as a way out — of financial insecurity, of persistent tumult, of Serbia — more than any kind of childhood fantasy coming true. He liked the game enough. Everyone he met was rooting for him to go. It was all right there in front of him. And who hasn’t walked through a door simply because it was open?
The problem is that wasn’t the narrative we expect from foreign basketball players. We expect them to love the NBA, to have grown up watching it on choppy internet streams or satellite television, to cherish its players and aspire to its trappings. When Yao Ming came to the NBA from China, he made no secret of his longtime adoration of Arvydas Sabonis and Hakeem Olajuwon; more recently, Kristaps Porzingis, a Latvian, made it clear that Dirk Nowitzki was his inspiration, and everyone nodded.
So, as soon as Darko began to get some attention in the U.S., the expected questions began: “Who was your idol? Who did you love to watch?
Kevin Garnett, Darko answered. He told everyone that Garnett, a tall power forward with a wingspan wider than a school bus, was his muse. He told local television stations he liked Garnett. He told USA Today he liked Garnett. He told ESPN he liked Garnett.
Except he had barely seen Garnett play. “I just sort of found him and decided he’s the one,” Darko says now. “It seemed like the player I was supposed to like.” www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/20211833/nba-bust-darko-milicic-finds-success-back-home-serbia

I have a whole new understanding of him and respect for him. Accountability is my biggest deal-breaker. Very few people own their mistakes, so I can respect that he grew and learned.

Oh, Detroit...
Detroit — Half of the eight mayoral hopefuls on Detroit’s primary ballot next week have been convicted of felony crimes involving drugs, assault or weapons, a Detroit News analysis shows.
Three were charged with gun crimes and two for assault with intent to commit murder. Some of the offenses date back decades, the earliest to 1977. The most recent was in 2008.

They still make NBA Live games?? I read on FB comments that's it's the first since 2015. Not sure if that's true, but I know they didn't make a game for this past season Live 10 was great, then they tried to revamp it in '11 and changed a ton of things and killed their game by releasing a free beta and getting a HUGE negative reception. Not sure if you guys remember that. Tony Parker was on the cover of Live 09 and his floater was UNSTOPPABLE. It sure was an awesome game series before it self destructed

From: The Owner, 2016
Sorry we haven't chatted much this year, but I've been busy lobbying the government to invade Peru (those bastards).
I need some wins. Fans hate losers. Free agents hate losers. What's your strategy? Keep on losing until I fire you? You're making good progress, then. I need some more jewelry. Go get me another ring.
I didn't buy this team just for fun. We should be making a higher profit.
You know, general managers aren't hired to be mediocre. Do better next year.
From: The Owner, 2021
Sorry we haven't chatted much this year, but I've been busy coming up with a way to slightly shrink or expand the hoop, depending on which one we're shooting at.
I'm pleased with our regular season performance. Winning titles can cover up a lot of flaws.
I just bought a nuclear submarine from the Russians. You believe that? That's all thanks to you. Keep pinching those pennies!
Anyway, overall I'm happy with the progress you've made, but I need to get back to flying to every country in the world on my private jet (except Peru).

But that's not good enough. Winning titles can cover up a lot of flaws. I just looked over the team finances. I like what I see. Keep up the good work there. Anyway, overall I'm happy with the progress you've made, but I need to get back to perfecting my money laundering infrastructure (owning this team is very helpful).

My manager told me that he had a great idea about having four guys play defense and one cherry-picking baskets the whole game. Didn't the Kings' owner actually say something similar to that?
